Why ChatGPT rankings need sampling
ChatGPT can give a different answer every time it's asked, so one screenshot proves very little. SERPent runs every prompt multiple times every day and reports positions and seen rates from all of those answers, with the n shown.
Prompts are sent as written, the way your customers would ask. For every answer, SERPent also records the web searches ChatGPT ran to build it, so you can see the queries behind the recommendation.
ChatGPT is reported on its own, never averaged with Google's AI features, because the brands it recommends can be quite different.
What SERPent tracks in ChatGPT
- Numbered positions: where each brand is named in the answer (#1, #2–3)
- Change against the previous period, plus each brand's best position
- How often your brand is seen, shown as answers out of n
- The searches ChatGPT ran for each answer
- The pages ChatGPT cites, and where your brand isn't cited
- Every captured answer, with the brands highlighted

How does a ChatGPT rank tracker work?
SERPent sends your prompts to ChatGPT multiple times every day, stores every answer, and records which tracked brands it names and in what order. Positions and seen rates are then calculated from all of those answers.
What does "position" mean in ChatGPT?
Position is where your brand is named among the tracked brands in ChatGPT's answer: #1 means first. When it varies between answers, SERPent shows a range, like #2–3.
Why not just ask ChatGPT myself?
One answer is one sample. ChatGPT's answers vary, so a single check can make a brand look much better or worse than they are. SERPent samples repeatedly and shows the n.
Can I see what ChatGPT searched for?
Yes. For each answer, SERPent lists the web searches ChatGPT ran, alongside the full answer and its citations.
